The Freer is a museum of Asian art with objects dating from Neolithic times to the early 20th century. The gallery also houses works by 19th- and early 20th-century American, including the world's most important collection of works by James McNeill Whistler. "Harmony in Blue and Gold: The Peacock Room, " Whistler's only existing interior design scheme, is permanently installed here. An underground exhibition gallery connects the building to the Arthur M.
